5 Skills A Man Should Learn

Disclaimer: I’m not a guru on masculinity.

But I’m a guy. And guys know that honing one’s masculinity is a constantly evolving process, until one’s death.

We can never compare ourselves to the likes of strongmen and warriors our ancestors were. But looks like we’re becoming a tad soft in the wrong way over the past few decades. Didn’t the global memo on declining T-levels reach you yet?

Again, I’m not a doc but I’ve found myself feeling more happy and manly whenever I did engage in the following activities and might help you revisit your goals.

Take the ones that make sense to you and discard the rest.

Here are 5 skills (at least in my books) one should learn:

FIGHT

Fighting is a very primal skill that helps you connect yourself with your body and soul in a unique way. Yes, lifting heavy shit is great – it gives you strength and makes you look good for others. But learning to fight will bring you face to face with who you are within. It’s not about being a violent scumbag prone to bursts of anger and emotion. It’s about being cool and calm headed even when someone throws a punch to your face to knock you out. This will translate in the way you carry yourself amidst life’s tough times too – personally and professionally.

COOK

We all wish we were Gordon Ramsay. But we aren’t and maybe we should settle down to learning simple dishes that we can make ourselves. Even when I cook something which doesn’t taste well, I enjoy it knowing the labour I put into it. It’s weird. But it makes you feel good.

LOVE

Don't listen to Sheldon. Learning to love must be the greatest skills of all. And I’m not talking about making love physically. I’m talking about loving the things you have, things you do, the people you have in your life. We love, we falter. But it’s up to us to learn the mistakes and keep loving the heck out of things even if they are hard not to.

MEDITATE

Meditation can mean different things to different people. For some, it’s sitting down with a specific goal to calm your mind and thoughts. For some, it’s devoted prayer. For some, it’s totally getting engrossed in something you love. If you love to paint and get yourself lost in the process, it’s still active meditation. And surprisingly, meditation complements other skills greatly – like fighting and love. So it’s a win-win-win.

SOLITUDE

There’s a difference between being alone and enjoying your solitude. It always helps to detach yourself from your partner, friends, family, pets, finances, life to re-organize yourself on a mental and emotional scale. A walk in the park or a solo road trip on your bike? You decide.

There are plenty other stuff that you can add to the list. But these are some stuff that’s easy to begin with.

Ciao.

Yeah I agree with those lists especially the fight. It gives some courage to face the real life challenges and push ourselves to fight and succeed.
