Is HubSpot’s Content Marketing Certification worth it?

If you’ve been wondering about upskilling yourself during this lockdown- congratulations! Many talk about it. But only a few do. And I hope my experience with HubSpot’s Content Marketing course will help you decide if it’s worth your time as well.

For someone who’s been writing content and copy for the past four years, doing an online course never crossed my mind. Call it being smug or total lazy, I never cared so much about acquiring skills through online methods. Especially, digital marketing skills.

However, there comes a time in every writer’s life when the need to change, adapt and grow becomes a necessity rather than a desire. And add to that the growing professional vacuum inside me nestled comfortably between ‘oh my God it’s insane’ work hours and career existential crisis.

Well, I’ll cut the foreplay and jump straight to what you’re here for.

It’s free

Who doesn’t like anything free? Especially something that is going to add value to your skills and resume. ‘Sign me up right now’, right? Nope, it’s quite the other way around. People think ‘If it’s free…is it really worth it?’ And that’s a valid question too. Even I started my Content Marketing course with the same apprehensions. A few lessons down the lane, I wisely concluded the course was definitely worth my time.

Value

If you’re someone who’s just starting out on digital marketing, every single video in the course will be valuable. Or if you’ve been in the digital marketing game for long, this will be a very good refresher on fundamental concepts. From creating content creation framework to the basics of storytelling concepts and content strategy, the syllabus covers it all. It doesn’t make you a master, but definitely does get you started on the path to become one.

Easy, snackable small lessons

What I liked the most about the course was how easy it was organised with worksheets and lesson resources for every category. With small snippets of video lessons by HubSpot tutors under each content category, navigating and assimilating lessons was easy and simple. Not to mention the quiz at the end of each lesson that lets you revise concepts and remember key learnings.

Get certified

HubSpot has an exam integrated at the end of the syllabus. No, it’s not something that you can pass by rote-memorisation. I’ve taken the test and I can say confidently the exam is a fair judgement of your key takeaways from the course. However, it’s not as extensive as a physical sit-down exam as well. You can take multiple attempts to clear the exam. And what more, by successfully completing the exam you can become a certified HubSpot Content Marketing professional. Does this mean you can flaunt it in your resume? You bet.

Who's it for?

Students, content writers/copywriters, digital marketing newbies, people running their own online business or people who want to integrate their business on the web, people who have too much time to spare during the lockdown, literally anybody with an interest in utilising and leveraging content online.

Coming back to the question at hand: Is HubSpot Content Marketing Certification worth it? In two simple words: it is. In more than two simple words: it largely depends on what you plan to do with it after you complete the course.

Disclaimer: In no way does HubSpot pays me to market their course. But no complains even if they choose to do so. (HubSpot, are you listening yet bruh?)
